Jerome County Airport (KJER) in Idaho has a new manager, Garth Baker.
A retired Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detective, Baker is a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol and an FAA Advanced Ground Instructor on his way to Certified Flight Instructor.
“I had two goals in life professionally that I wanted to accomplish: The first goal was to serve as a police officer in a large metropolitan area and the second being involved in anything aviation,” he said.
Baker went right to work after being appointed airport manager in April.
“In my short period of time as manager, I have competitively priced our fuel to accommodate aircraft traveling through our community and to expose the Jerome County Airport to as many pilots and companies as possible,” he said.
He notes that the airport has a master plan of improvements and add-ons set through 2018.
The airport’s Appreciation Day is scheduled for July 16, which includes a pancake breakfast and numerous static displays.
The airport is is southeast Idaho in The Magic Valley, which is near the Sawtooth Mountains, the Sun Valley Ski Resort, the Craters of The Moon National Monument, the Snake River, Snake River Canyon, the Perrine Bridge and the Niagara Falls of the west, Shoshone Falls.

Jerome Airport is a self-serve airport with an open FBO with restrooms, free WiFi, vending machines, a computer for flight planning and a courtesy car available 24/7.
Pilots who would like a rental call just need to call the airport at 208-324-9980 and a rental car will be delivered to the airport awaiting your arrival, Baker noted.
