Picture of the day: Best fly-in breakfast in Illinois

Albert L. Dyer sent us this photo of a beautiful Luscombe snapped earlier this fall at a fly-in in Illinois. He explains: “I found myself flying into Ogel County Airport (C55) to what was being advertised as ‘the best fly-in breakfast in Illinois.’

“And, let me say that every word of that statement was true, but there was so much more too! Ogel County Airport boasts a 200-foot x 2,600-foot east/west turf strip of the smoothest, softest grass that even I couldn’t make a bad landing on. Such a turf runway encourages a diversity of aircraft to fly in, sit a spell, relax and enjoy the day, especially after such a wonderful breakfast.”

“One of the oldest flying airplanes to fly in was this 1939 Luscombe. However, with hangar doors up, there were some pretty special airplanes that pulled pilots in and conversations ensued with their owners too. I’m truly looking forward to marking my calendar for the next event at Ogel County Airport.”
