Lightspeed add new features for Delta Zulu headset app
iPad Pilot News
Lightspeed Aviation has always been at the forefront of aviation headset technology. They were one of the first to offer Bluetooth audio connectivity and customizable headset options through their FlightLink app on iOS. Now, there’s an exciting new update for the Lightspeed App, particularly for those who use the Delta Zulu headset. This latest version, 2.2.0, packs in some great improvements and features aimed at boosting safety, enhancing communication clarity, and overall performance, making the flying experience even better.
New Features in Lightspeed App Version 2.2.0
1. Multiple Personalized HearingEQity® Profiles
Users can now create multiple custom hearing profiles, offering unparalleled flexibility to tailor the audio experience for different users or environments. This is a significant improvement over preset options, allowing for quick toggling between profiles and ensuring a personalized audio experience each time.
2. Recording Notifications
To ensure that pilots never miss an important communication, the app now provides notifications if the flight recording stops unintentionally. This immediate alert helps pilots resume recording quickly, maintaining a continuous log of in-flight communications. Please note that app notifications need to be enabled to take full advantage of this feature.
3. Audio Input Names in the Recording Tab
To make the recording process more intuitive, the app has renamed the audio input selections. The three new options are:
- The device
- Cabin only
- Cabin + ATC communications
Enhanced Features and Performance Improvements
Other notable enhancements to the Lightspeed app include:
- Optimization improvements for smoother performance and faster response times
- Bug fixes to enhance the app’s stability and reliability
- Streamlined user interface for easier navigation and use
What y0u should know about the Delta Zulu headset
Carbon Monoxide Monitoring
One of the standout features of the Delta Zulu headset is its built-in carbon monoxide detector. The Lightspeed App enhances this feature by providing detailed information on CO levels. In the Home tab, you can see real-time ppm levels, and by tapping the “View Statistics” button, you can access an hour-long graph of CO levels and temperature. The settings tab allows for adjustments to audio alert thresholds, helping to avoid nuisance alerts while taxiing with an open window.
Custom Audio Profiles
The Lightspeed App’s HearingEQity feature can generate custom audio profiles for each pilot or passenger. This is especially useful for those with moderate hearing loss. Users simply need to complete a 12-frequency hearing test in each ear, ideally in a quiet room. Once completed, the custom profile can be activated in the app or by double-tapping the control box’s center button.
Audio Recording
Leveraging features from the FlightLink app, the Lightspeed App offers comprehensive audio recording and playback capabilities. Once the Delta Zulu headset is connected via Bluetooth, users can start recording by tapping the record button on the Recording tab. The app captures all headset audio, including intercom and ATC communications. Users can easily replay specific radio calls or browse through previous recordings using the folder icon.
The Lightspeed App is a free download available for iPad and iPhone running iOS 13 or later. Currently, it is only compatible with the Delta Zulu headset, which is now available for shipping.
