Sporty’s Pilot Training app adds new interactive scenarios
iPad Pilot News
Sporty’s Pilot Training app has helped tens of thousands of pilots earn their pilot certificates, add new ratings, learn how to use a wide variety of advanced avionics systems and get checked out in new aircraft types. The platform has grown considerably since it first launched 6 years ago and is known for its fast pace of innovation, bringing new content, new training tools, and technological enhancements every year.
Pilot Training offers pilots the ultimate flexibility in training, providing access to all of Sporty’s aviation courses on dedicated iPhone and iPad apps, Mac app, an Android app, online and on the TV, using the included apps for AppleTV, FireTV, AndroidTV, Roku and Chromecast.
The latest update delivers new interactive training scenarios to Sporty’s Private Pilot and Instrument Rating courses, allowing students to interact with simulated aviation environments and test their knowledge with visual quizzes. The update also adds a collection of free resources for all users of the app, including aviation blog articles, podcasts and webinar recordings.
New Interactive Scenarios
When it comes to online Private, Instrument and Commercial pilot training, the Sporty’s method starts with engaging HD and 4K video lessons that serve as both ground and flight school. The engaging in-flight video and ground lessons are enhanced with sophisticated motion graphics designed to prepare students for both their lessons in the airplane and for the FAA knowledge test.
The latest training resource takes this visual learning approach one step further by allowing students to engage directly with the content, in the form of interactive scenarios. These allow students to test their knowledge on subjects like flight instruments, airport traffic patterns, airspace, ground reference maneuvers and sectional charts. You’ll also find several aviation simulators, allowing students to interact with VASI and PAPI approach lights and VOR navigation to better learn how they work. Here’s an example of one of the new scenarios covering airport signs and markings:
Sporty’s Instrument Rating course includes scenarios covering instrument approach charts, ILS and LOC Back Course simulators, RNAV approaches, and a holding pattern simulator. Students will find these interactive exercises in the supplemental training content below the video player for select video segments, as well as all grouped together at the end of the Video Training section of the app:
Aviation Blogs, Podcasts and Webinars too
Sporty’s Pilot Training app also added a new menu on the bottom of the home screen providing students and pilots with quick access to Sporty’s comprehensive library of free flight training blogs, aviation podcasts and webinar recordings. Select the Free Content tab and any one of the options to quickly read, listen to or watch the latest aviation-themed content. Podcasts load in the app’s audio player and will continue to play while you use other parts of the Pilot Training app or other apps on your iPhone or iPad. All of these resources are completely free and do not require the user to purchase a course first.
How to get the courses
All of these upgrades join an already impressive list of features, including powerful FAA knowledge test prep tools. The Learn to Fly Course includes a proprietary database of over 1,000 FAA test questions, customizable study modes, and unlimited practice tests. You can even earn an automatic flight instructor endorsement to take the test when you’re done.
You can purchase access to any of the 30 aviation training courses right from Sporty’s website, including the 2023 Learn to Fly, Instrument Rating Course and Commercial Pilot Course. You’ll gain instant access to all the course platforms for one price. If you’ve already purchased one of these courses (both courses include lifetime updates), you just need to download the mobile app and sign in with your username/password or log in to Sporty’s Online Course Portal.
Each course purchase includes lifetime updates, allowing customers who previously purchased any of these courses to automatically receive the new features after updating to the latest version of the Pilot Training app.
