As part of its Virtual Airshow this month, an online celebration of aviation to help ease the pain of a cancelled 2020 AirVenture Oshkosh, Sporty’s has partnered with ForeFlight to offer a virtual poker run contest. The goal is to encourage pilots to fly this summer, whether it’s a local flight or a long cross-country, and then share it with others. One winner will be awarded a Sentry ADS-B receiver.
While a traditional poker run usually involves flying to five different airports and collecting a card at each stop, such in-person events are a little harder to pull off during the coronavirus pandemic. This new contest will hopefully inspire the same spirit of adventure and get some hours in pilots’ logbooks, but in a safe way.
That safe way is using ForeFlight’s Track Logs tab, a powerful tool for recording, reviewing, and sharing flights. The app can be set to automatically log flights, so there’s no additional workload and built-in debrief tools make it easy to review every segment of a flight. For more details on using track logs, check out ForeFlight’s support page.
The Sporty’s-ForeFlight virtual poker run is free to enter. Just fly a flight with five waypoints, whether it be landing at five airports or drawing a picture in the sky with a five-point track, then share the resulting track log with Sporty’s. Instead of winning based on the best poker hand, points will be awarded for creativity and precise flying. Prizes include a Sentry ADS-B receiver and a one year annual Performance Plus subscription to ForeFlight.
How to enter:
- Take a flight sometime during July 2020.
- Fly a route with at least five points (this could be a 25-mile flight or a 250-mile flight, but it must have five airports or turns or points of interest you circle).
- Record your flight using ForeFlight’s track log feature.
- Email your track log to ipad@sportys.com with Virtual Poker Run in the subject.
The winner will be announced in early August.
