Lara Kaufmann of Greenville Downtown Airport in Greenville, S.C., sent in these photos, taken the weekend of Oct. 22, when The Collings Foundation‘s Wings of Freedom Tour visited the airport. Thousands of people came out to see North American B-25 Mitchell “Tondelayo,” Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine, Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft,” and P-51 Mustang “Toulouse Nuts” fighter.

The Military History Center of the Carolinas brought out equipment from the World War II era, including this Cletrac.

This year’s tour brought a WWII B-25 Mitchell back to Greenville. Many years ago, it was common to see B-25s flying over Greenville. That was during World War II when Greenville Army Air Base, later renamed Donaldson Air Force Base, was used for B-25 aircraft training.
