The 42nd Sun ‘n Fun Fly-in kicks off next week in Lakeland, FL.

The flying season’s unofficial kick-off is next week, as the gates open for the 2016 edition of the Sun ‘n Fun Fly-in at the Lakeland airport. There will be undoubtedly be new products to see and spectacular airshows to take in. But for iPad pilots there will also be some great opportunities to learn about the new iPad Pro models, latest iPad tips, apps and accessories.

The entire forum schedule is a little overwhelming, so we’ve highlighted a few of the most popular sessions below:

iPad Pilot News: 10 Things Every iPad Pilot Should Know – Join the editors of iPad Pilot News to learn a good mix of beginner and advanced tips, this fast-moving seminar covers a lot of ground. From legal considerations and iPad battery best practices to hidden features in apps (and some cool apps you may not know) there’s something for everyone here. Thursday, April 7 at 9:00 am, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 1.

iPad Pilot News: Advanced ForeFlight & Stratus Tips – Take an in-depth look at aviation’s top app with the editors of iPad Pilot News to learn all the new features introduced over the last few years, and how to use it as an in-flight weather tool when connected to the Stratus ADS-B receiver. Thursday, April 7 at 10:00 am, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 1.

ADS-B In and Out: A Pilots Guide – Between the looming 2020 FAA mandate for ADS-B Out and the variety of popular ADS-B receivers for the iPad, interest in ADS-B has never been higher. This information-packed seminar explains it all: what ADS-B really means, how it works, what the limitations are and what devices are on the market – both panel-mount and portable. If you’re flying with a Stratus, GDL 39 or Dual XGPS170 – or thinking about it – this seminar is for you. Friday, April 8 at 9:00 am, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 1.

Garmin Pilot: Using an iPad to Plan, File, & Fly – Join Garmin’s Jan Mackenzie for an information-pack presentation on how to use the Garmin Pilot app as your one-stop shop for preflight preparation, in-flight navigation and keeping up with the weather over ADS-B. Thursday, April 7 at 1:00pm, at Garmin’s Seminar Tent (just outside of Hangar D).

Cockpit Connectivity – Garmin Connext – Garmin’s Connext system is now the industry standard for wirelessly connecting your iPad to the panel-mount avionics in your airplane. Learn how the system works, equipment requirements and how both Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight app users can benefit from this system. Presented each day from April 5 – April 9 at 2:00pm, at Garmin’s Seminar Tent (just outside of Hangar D).

Foreflight 101 – Beginner Course – ForeFlight instructor Dominik Ochmanek will guide new iPad pilots through the basics of ForeFlight and how to get started with the app. Thursday, April 7 at 11:00am and Sunday, April 10 at 9:00am, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 1.

Foreflight 201 – Advanced Course – This presentation is perfect for those that are already familiar with the basics of Foreflight, but are looking to take their iPad and EFB knowledge to the next level. Tuesday, April 5 at 9:00am and Saturday, April 9 at 10:00am, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 1.

10 Things You Should Know About Flying with an iPad & ForeFlight – Bring your iPad to follow along during this technical briefing on integrating an electronic flight bag into your planning, flying, and debriefing activities. Wednesday, April 6 at 2:00pm in the AOPA Activity Tent.

Top 10 iPad Mistakes – Active flight instructor and iPad pro Gary Reeves goes through some of the traps technology can present in this thought-provoking presentation. Thursday, April 7 at 1:00pm, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 1.

iPad Take Flight – Advanced iPad Use – Charles Schneider, an active pilot and president of iPad accessory maker MyGoFlight, presents an interactive session to help you understand how the iPad should fit into your everyday cockpit procedures. Thursday, April 7 at 2:00pm, at the Aerospace Academy, Room 2.
